Where to stay
San Carlos, Sonora
Where to base yourself
San Carlos is small and linear, so no matter where you land you are close to the water. The choice is really about whether you want to be near the boats, on the sand, or set up for a longer stay.
The marina area
The natural first-timer base. Hotels, condos, restaurants and the dive and fishing operators cluster here, so you can walk to dinner and roll onto a boat in the morning without a drive. Good for anyone here mainly for diving, snorkeling or sportfishing.
Beachfront condos and Los Algodones
Toward the north end near the sand dunes and the beach clubs, you will find rental condos and a couple of larger properties. This suits couples and families who want to wake up on the beach and are happy to drive a few minutes for supplies and restaurants. Quieter than the marina.
RV parks and long-stay rentals
San Carlos is a snowbird capital, so there is a deep supply of RV parks and monthly condo rentals aimed at people wintering here. This is the budget and long-stay play: rates drop hard by the week or month, and you get a community of return visitors who know the town.
Who should stay where
- First-timers and boat-focused trips: marina area.
- Beach days, families, couples: condos near Los Algodones and the beaches.
- Budget and long stays: RV parks and monthly rentals.
Book ahead for the winter high season (roughly December through March), when snowbirds fill the good long-stay spots.
