Where to stay

Xalapa, Veracruz

Where to base yourself

Xalapa is compact enough that you want to be in or near the historic center. Get that right and you can walk to most of what you came for.

Centro Histórico

The obvious pick, and the right one for a two-day trip. You are walking distance from Parque Juárez, the cathedral, the cafes and the bars, and a short ride from the museum. Best for first-timers who want everything on foot. The trade-offs are noise on the busier streets and the steep hills, so read the exact location before booking.

Around Los Berros and Parque Juárez

A slightly calmer pocket right beside the center, with leafy parks and good coffee. Suits travelers who want to be central but a notch quieter, and couples who plan to linger in cafes rather than bars.

Near the university (Zona UV)

Cheaper rooms, casual food, and a young crowd, thanks to the big student population. Good for budget travelers and anyone who likes a livelier, less polished neighborhood. You will rely a little more on short cab rides to reach the center and museum.

Museum end of town

If your priority is the anthropology museum, some hotels sit out toward it, away from the center’s bustle. Quieter and greener, but you will taxi in for dinner and nightlife.

For most people: book in or right beside the Centro Histórico, and check that the listing is not stranded at the top of a brutal hill.
