Getting there & around
San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potosi
Getting there
By air — San Luis Potosi’s airport (SLP) sits about 30 to 40 minutes northeast of the center. It handles a modest set of domestic routes plus a few US connections, so you’ll often route through Mexico City or Monterrey. From the airport, a taxi or ride-hail into town is the simplest option, roughly a 30 to 45 minute ride depending on traffic; treat times as approximate.
By bus — This is the practical way in for most travelers. The Central de Autobuses (the Terminal Terrestre Potosina) has frequent first-class service. Approximate ride times: around 5 hours from Mexico City, about 2.5 to 3 hours from Guanajuato or Queretaro, and roughly 2.5 hours from Zacatecas. First-class buses here are comfortable, air-conditioned and reliable.
By car — San Luis Potosi sits on major highways linking central and northern Mexico, so it’s an easy and logical driving stop. The toll roads are in good shape. Stick to daytime driving between cities, as is standard advice in the region.
Getting around
Once you’re in the center, you won’t need transport. The historic core is compact and walkable, and everything on your list is within a few blocks. For the bus station, the airport, or outlying spots like the Centro de las Artes, use a ride-hail app or a taxi; both are cheap and easy. City buses exist and are inexpensive but aren’t worth puzzling out for a short stay. Watch the uneven stone sidewalks more than anything else.
