Where to stay

Monterrey, Nuevo León

Monterrey spreads out, so where you base yourself shapes your whole trip. Pick a zone by what you came for.

San Pedro Garza García

The polished, wealthy suburb west of downtown, and the best base if you want the top restaurants, safe streets and the easiest run up to Chipinque. It’s calm, upscale and a little corporate. Suits business travelers, couples and anyone who wants comfort over character. It’s also the priciest zone.

Barrio Antiguo and the center

The historic core, next to the Macroplaza and the museums, with the city’s nightlife concentrated in Barrio Antiguo’s old buildings. Best for first-timers who want to walk to the sights and be near the bars. Lively and central by day and on weekend nights, but quiet and a bit dead on weeknights.

Valle Oriente and the west business corridor

Modern high-rises, malls and hotels clustered along the western business strip. Convenient and comfortable, well connected by car, but soulless on foot; you’ll drive everywhere. Fine for a work trip.

Fundidora and the east

Near the big Fundidora park and the Paseo Santa Lucía. Good if you want green space and family attractions on your doorstep, quieter and more residential.

Budget note

Cheaper hotels and hostels cluster near the center and the bus station area. Doable, but the bus-station blocks are worth leaving before dark. For value with a bit of life, the edges of Barrio Antiguo are your best bet.
