Where to stay
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo
Where to base yourself in Playa del Carmen
The town is small enough to walk, so where you stay is mostly about how much noise and how much price you want.
The Fifth Avenue core (Calles 4 to 14)
The center of everything: shops, bars, restaurants and the beach a block away. Best for first-timers and short stays who want to step out the door into the action. The trade-off is noise; the closer you are to the club strip around Calle 12, the later it stays loud.
North of Constituyentes / Coco Beach
A few blocks north the pace drops. Quieter, still walkable to Fifth Avenue, calmer beach. Good for couples and anyone who wants to sleep. You pay a small premium for the calm.
Inland, past Calle 20 to 30
Walk away from the sea and prices fall fast. This is where budget travelers and longer stays get real value: local apartments, cheaper food, more Mexican and less tourist. You trade a 10-to-15-minute walk to the beach for it.
Playacar
A gated resort development just south of the ferry, all all-inclusives, golf and manicured quiet. Suits families and package travelers who want the resort bubble and do not mind being a taxi ride from town life.
Quick steer
Want nightlife and convenience, stay in the core. Want quiet, go north. Want value, go inland. Want a self-contained resort, book Playacar.
