Getting there & around
Tepoztlán, Morelos
Getting there
Tepoztlán sits about an hour and a half south of Mexico City, and most people come as a day trip or weekend from the capital.
- By bus. This is the easy option. Frequent buses run from Mexico City’s Taxqueña terminal (Terminal del Sur) toward Cuautla and Oaxaca, and many stop at Tepoztlán. Reckon on roughly 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic, at a modest fare (approximate — confirm at the counter). Comfortable coach seating; the drop is near the center.
- By car. Take the Mexico City–Cuernavaca highway and branch toward Tepoztlán, about 1.5 hours in light traffic. The honest warning: weekend traffic on this route and inside town is brutal, and parking near the center fills early. If you drive on a Saturday or Sunday, arrive early or expect to circle.
- From the airport (MEX). No direct service; you’ll route through the city — a taxi or rideshare to the southern bus terminal, then the bus, or a private car the whole way.
Getting around
Once you’re here, walk. The center, market, ex-convent and Tepozteco trailhead are all within a compact, walkable core — you won’t need a car for anything. Streets are cobbled, steep and uneven, so wear decent shoes. For the outer hillside lodgings or a late return uphill, grab one of the local taxis rather than walking dark, steep lanes. There’s no metro or real public transit inside town; it’s small enough that you don’t need one.
