Base yourself in or beside the center

Queretaro is a walk-everything city, so where you sleep matters. The one rule: stay close enough to the Centro Historico to reach the plazas and restaurants on foot.

The main areas

• Centro Historico — The obvious first-timer choice. You wake up inside the colonial core, steps from the Andador, the plazas and most of the good eating. Boutique hotels in restored stone buildings, plus mid-range options. Best for anyone who wants to ditch the car and just walk. The only trade-offs are weekend plaza noise and limited on-site parking.
• Around the aqueduct / Alameda edge — Just east and south of the core. Quieter streets, some smart small hotels, an easy stroll into the action. Good for couples and light sleepers who still want to walk in.
• Along Avenida Constituyentes / Alameda — A bit more modern, with larger and mid-range hotels and easier parking. Suits drivers and anyone wanting a calmer base a short ride from the center.
• Juriquilla / the north business district — Newer, corporate, mall-and-highway territory near the university and tech parks. Cheaper big-brand hotels, but you will drive or rideshare for everything worth seeing. Only worth it if price or a car trumps atmosphere.

Quick steer

First trip and short stay: Centro Historico, no question. Traveling with a car or on a tighter budget: the Constituyentes or Alameda fringe gives you a calmer, cheaper base within a short hop of everything. Nightlife is concentrated around the central plazas, so the closer you sleep, the shorter the walk home.
