Getting there & around

Bernal, Queretaro

Getting to Bernal

Bernal is an easy hop from Queretaro city, which is the natural launch point.

  • By air. The nearest airport is Queretaro (QRO), with domestic flights and some US connections. From the airport it is roughly an hour by car to Bernal. Mexico City’s airports are about three hours by road if you are coming from further out.
  • By car. This is the most comfortable option and lets you tack on the wine and cheese route. From Queretaro city, plan on about an hour via the highway toward Tequisquiapan and Ezequiel Montes, then the short road into Bernal. Roads are paved and in decent shape; watch for topes and slow trucks on the rural stretches, and drive it in daylight.
  • By bus. Buses and colectivos run from Queretaro’s bus terminal toward Bernal, often with a change at Ezequiel Montes or Tequisquiapan. Reckon on roughly 1 to 1.5 hours all in, depending on connections. It is doable and cheap but less frequent on the last leg, so check return times before you commit to a bus day.

Getting around town

Once you arrive, forget the car. Bernal is tiny and the entire core, plus the base of the rock trail, is walkable in minutes. There is no need for taxis inside town.

Honest note on parking: on weekends and holidays, parking near the center fills fast and informal lots charge a flat fee. Arrive early, or park on the edge and walk in. Midweek this is a non-issue.
