Getting there

Prismas Basálticos sits near Huasca de Ocampo, in the highlands of Hidalgo. The nearest useful airport is Felipe Ángeles (NLU) north of Mexico City, roughly two hours by car. Most people, though, come from Mexico City or from Pachuca.

Driving is by far the easiest way. From Mexico City it is about two to two and a half hours; from Pachuca, the state capital, roughly 45 minutes to an hour. The last stretch to Huasca and the site is paved but winding mountain road, so allow extra time and go slow after rain.

By bus, take an ADO or Futura service from Mexico City to Pachuca (about one and a half to two hours), then a local combi or a taxi from Pachuca toward Huasca. There is no direct long-distance bus to the site itself, so this last leg is the fiddly part.

Getting around once there

There is no useful public transport between Huasca and the prismas themselves, so a car is the honest answer. Without one, a taxi from Huasca to the site and back, or a small local tour, is the practical option. Many visitors arrive on organized day tours from Mexico City or Pachuca that bundle the prismas with Huasca and nearby haciendas, which sidesteps the transport headache entirely.

Roads here are curvy and can be foggy or slick in the rainy season. Times above are approximate and stretch on weekends and holidays, when traffic into Huasca backs up. Verified specifics are confirmed separately.
