Getting there & around

Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila

Getting there

Parras sits off the highway between Saltillo and Torreón in southern Coahuila. Most travelers arrive by car or bus.

By air. The nearest airport is Torreón (TRC), roughly a two-hour drive away. Saltillo also has an airport at a similar distance. From either, you rent a car or arrange ground transport.

By car. Driving is the most flexible option. From Saltillo it is roughly two to two and a half hours; from Torreón, about two hours. The route runs on good highway with a turnoff to the town. Approximate times only, and traffic and roadworks vary. Do this drive in daylight, as rural desert highways are dark and thin on services at night.

By bus. Intercity buses connect Parras to Saltillo and Torreón, with connections onward. Service is workable rather than frequent, so check schedules ahead and expect a small terminal.

Getting around

Once you are in Parras, the town center is walkable and that is how you should see it. You do not need a car for the plaza, churches, and center restaurants.

You will want wheels for the edges, though. Casa Madero and several balnearios sit a short drive out. Taxis are available in town and are the easy fix for short hops. If you plan to bounce between the winery, the pools, and out-of-town spots freely, having your own car makes the two days much smoother.
